Drexel Men Finish Second at CAA Championship

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Drexel men finished second in the Colonial Athletic Association team competition at the Kerr Cup Regatta with 31 points behind Delaware who won all four of its races to score 60 team points. Drexel placed second in the junior varsity eight race with a time of 6:05.01 to record 15 points. In the varsity eight 2,000-meter contest Drexel clocked 5:56.66 to place third and earn 16 points. Delaware was awarded the Dr. Thomas Kerr Cup and the CAA varsity eight title while George Mason finished second.
Delaware won the overall team point total competition which is determined by combining the men's and women's point totals. Delaware's total of 106 topped George Mason who tallied 76 points for second and Drexel rounded out the top three with a men's and women's combined total of 67 points, well ahead of the fourth through seventh place crews. William & Mary finished with a total of 39 points for fourth, Virginia Commonwealth was fifth (18), Old Dominion earned sixth (9), while UNC Wilmington finished seventh with four points total.
On the women's side, Drexel won the varsity eight race with a time of 6:30.24, leading the Dragon women to a third-place finish at the CAA Championship. The varsity eight women defeated CAA rivals George Mason and Delaware, who finished second and third, respectively, earning the Lela H. Kerr Cup for their first-place finish.
The junior varsity eight also scored points for the Dragons by earning a third-place finish and 12 team points with a final time of 6:59.28. The Dragon women scored a total of 36 points to place third in the women's team race behind the winning crew, George Mason (52) and second place, Delaware (46).
The Drexel crew returns to action at the Bergen Cup Regatta which will take place Saturday, April 28, on the Schuylkill. Drexel's senior rowers will be honored following the regatta.
